The coloring is nice, but if I were to judge Templesmith by THIS drawing alone he would be to drawing hands what Rob Liefeld is to drawing feet. In fact I do not like anything about the line art.

Total agreement. When Templesmith is on he's on, but when he's off he's OFF. And a lot of the time he covers up the bad drawing with pretty colors so you don't notice it as much. But yeah, this piece is a great example of bad drawing. I mean, one could argue that it's not supposed to be done in a photorealistic style like Travis Charest and that it's more stylized, but still, even in Templesmith's highly stylized, cartoony, exaggerated approach to drawing it's bad. The proportions just don't work at all. The torso to small leg ratio are way off because of the poorly executed perspective. The abdomen is too long. It needs to have more foreshortening. And yeah, the hands are a mess. And the pose is very stiff and static. I could go on and on. ;D

I think Templesmith is pretty loose about proportions, sorta like Mignola, so that's part of his style. I do agree that this one doesnt do much for me either though. The colours, on the other hand, are dead on! I like how extra detail in the muscles was conjured up in the tones...

My take is: Templesmith's linework leaves A LOT to be desired, but after he's done with all the coloring and added effects, his stuff is very fucking cool. It's just pure eye candy after he's done.

Ben Templesmith's version:

When it comes to Templesmith's work it seems people either love it or hate it. As far as this particular piece of line art, this is what he posted for others to work from. I just thought it would be cool to color something of his in my style and see if it worked or not. Maybe his work is just more suited for his style of coloring.
Thanks for the feed back though.

I don't get a chance to color much right now. Here's a piece of Joe's that I'm working on and off on.

separations on Joe's work take forever. I''ll post a finished version eventually.

No matter what your "style" is, that thing sucks.
You could replace Wolvie with a turd and it would look great on his background.
Fact is, he should stick to coloring. I have yet to see any linework from him that even sparks a fart of interest from me.

I can honestly say I don't care for Wulf's version and its probably due to the crap he had to work with, as I have always enjoyed Wulf's colors.
