O.k. I have read through the first four issues plus about half of the one-shot sequel "Death and Destruction". The story is, as others have noted, not anything to blow your mind. Honestly you could ignore about 60% of the dialog and not miss anything. Some of it is fun though in a sort of "Toxic Avenger"/Troma films kind of way.
But if you treat this as if the story is nothing more than something to hang the art/action on and don't try comparing this to Alan Moore or David Quinn write, this is a pretty good book. The artwork reminds me of Dave Cooper's("Gun Fury", "Jake Thrash", etc.) work a bit(a good thing) but not in a copycat way...just some similarities in style(both are kind of hybridized. A sort of fusion between "cartoony" and " something more serious). The writing does not get all pretentious(the way SOME way worse writers, who do not know how bad they are will carry on as if they are scribes of the highest order and end up getting far beyond the scope of their capabilities as storytellers. I won't mention their names but Tim has worked with one or more of them...) either. Steph knows what's he's got and does not force a bunch of text in there just for the sake of placing text to read. You can probably read through an issue of ZCFH in about 5 minutes if you do not skip any dialog.
There are some, presumably unavoidable guest artists doing some pages here and there. Mostly very good artists I would like to see more work from but the only thing is they all have pretty wildly divergent styles that do not mesh with Steph's stuff. Some pages come off like, if you can imagine Tim letting artists like Mike Mignola, Barry Blair and Erik Larsen do random guest pages in Faust issues. Kind of jarring even if they are good artists.
I also wanted to see that leader chic from the First Colony getting it on with the Blood Queen because adding lesbianism to ANY story is proven to improve that story, no matter what. The Blood Queen was trying but it seems that Tatiana or whatever her name is was not cooperating.
A note to Steph' about shipping your books to the U.S.:
If you can afford to, place a book sandwiched between cardboard pieces. Also ALWAYS write on the envelope "Please do not Fold or Bend!". My copy of the one-shot graphic novel arrived looking like someone tried to eat the top left corner. The rest of the books(the much more fragile comic books ironically) were in perfect condition though.
