About this work Tim says: "So i came across this Barry Smith story that I saw years ago in "Savage Tales" (as just pencils, but now it is inked), but as much as i enjoyed parts I was horrified by others. Is this Smith? Anyway, I decided to draw the story myself from his art and rework it." Here are the original pages that inspired Tim: Cimmeria_pg1_780w by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr Cimmeria_pg2_780w by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr Cimmeria_pg3_780w by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr Cimmeria_pg4_780w by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr Cimmeria_pg5_780w by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr And here's Tim's take on the same story: 1 by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr 2 by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr 3 by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr 4 by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr 5 by BillyBobKrishna, on Flickr

The real fun thing about doing this was to study smith in all his glory of movement. The wrestling was exciting to study each pull, grab, tear, scratch and flex of form and beast. But on top of it all I always found the situation to be odd. Conan on top of a hill but yet fights a wolf in the forest soooooooo I took the liberty to change things , enviroment and some panels but always trying to use a smith pose if need be. He did a great job on it and was a joy to walk his steps.

Did you share this with Mr. Smith? I wonder what his response would be. If you give me permission I'll send him the link here to view them.

Great pages. Barry Smith took a (very) old school approach with the artistic framing of his pages - similar to older, classic Middle Age book design, while Tim did an illustrated story - both are fabulous!
