Faust: 20 Years of Hell print, Rebel Board Exclusive 1st look!
Okay, so I had an idea for a tribute to Tim and a promo piece for everything related, including this board and UW’s DynaPop gallery/Vigil hub and Glen’s Raw Comics. I think this is a cool, totally fan created and fan maintained community and comic shop. I don’t know of many other artists who have such diehard fans, usually you can’t get even three people to put out any kind of group effort with no expectation of any reward other than to have done something cool. That’s why socialism is a great idea that will never work, namely because people suck and are selfish pricks looking out for #1, ringmeat parasites that they are.
I wanted one promotional item -originally it was just going to be a flyer- with all the info anybody ever needs to delve into the heart of Vigil and Faust. The tag line Twenty Years of Hell came to mind, and it’s a good one, and not just for the obvious reason.
Then I saw the Cactus Con print that Glen, UW and Tim did and knew I could do better than a flyer. This project being upgraded from flyer to limited edition print is very much inspired by the Cactus Con print.
I needed a piece of artwork that hadn’t been published as a print before but still kicked ass. I found one in my stack of DAL’s collection. I scanned it in, laid it out in my own obsessive, busy way and photoshopped it until I was happy with it. Then I had to decide whether to surprise Tim with the gift/tribute or get his permission. Michael Angelos brought it to my attention that I would actually be violating Tim’s copyright, and that Tim had been bootlegged before. I didn’t want our piece to be a bootleg or show Tim any disrespect by producing something that he hadn’t approved. What if he thought it sucked? Faust is his and he should get final say just for quality control if no other reason. So I asked Tim’s permission and received it almost immediately. This is no bootleg. This is approved and the Rebel Studios logo is there for a reason.
Since this is a MegaCon debut, I don’t want to post it here in all its glory, but I did want you all to have a peek at it. I’ll post a full sized scan on DynaPop once the weekend is over and the “new” has worn off.
So, I give you the Faust: Twenty Years of Hell signed and numbered, limited edition MegaCon 2007 print. At the bottom is a detail of the bottom of the print where I’m spreadin’ the word about our community, gallery and The Source.
This is a black and white and grey toned 11x17 print, printed from a 300 dpi, high resolution .psd file so it won’t have any smudges or “copy-of-a-copy” defects. It’s on 80 pound high gloss cardstock. I spared no expense. It is limited to 50 copies.
How to get it? I would prefer that you buy these from Tim at a convention. He does enough of ‘em and gets around. This is his thing and I want him to reap the most benefit from it. I have charged nothing for the fifteen plus hours of my labor and I’m picking up all printing costs. I’m giving Tim 30 of these outright. List price is $15. This print is worth it, too. As I said, I’d like for everyone to buy one of these direct from Tim at a show, it’s a great way for you to say “thank you for two decades of incredible art” and also come away with a cool collectible piece of history that commemorates not only Tim, but also those who have gone the extra mile and brought you the gallery, the forum and the stores dedicated to the Vigil’s work. For some of you, especially the few of you who are outside the continental United States, buying this directly from Tim simply won’t be possible. I am going to offer a few for sale through Rawcomics. Glen will have ‘em, but don’t expect ‘em to last for long!! Anyway, I hope you guys are as proud of this as I am. E-mail or PM me with any questions, or simply reply to this post.
Oh, did I mention that this is the FIRST EVER product of any kind published by my very own UK Studio? Well, it is. And it’s priced to be affordable to everyone.
All best,
Tony
PS- I’m off to MegaCon tomorrow morning. If any of you are gonna be there, Tim and I have a small press booth this year, so please stop by and see us!
