Hey Gents,
Anyone know if there are modified Xbox 360s out there that can play burned games? In other words I'm wondering if you could rent a game from say Blockbuster, burn it and then play it on an Xbox 360? Or does the Xbox have to be modified in some way? Let me know. Thanks!

From my brief research on the internet, I'm seeing that this modding business of the Xbox 360 is quite complex and involved! Seems like you'd have to really be a tech to do it.

Thanks! ~J I have a modded PS2 and xbox. You can get a game and burn it as an .iso to your hard drive using DVD Decryptor then burn it onto a reg blank dvd. You then need either Swap Magic or a Mod chip to run the burned game. I wont mod my xbox 360 till the warranty is up.

Thanks for the reply, UW. So it is indeed possible to mod the 360 then? Send me a PM as to where you would get the chip and installation instructions, etc. And would you say it's rather easy to install or does it take some technical know-how and skill?
And you mention burning a game as an .iso file to your hard drive, but aren't .iso files specific to the Windows OS? Or would it work the same way on a Mac??
And as a disclaimer to any potential Federal Agents reading this: I have no intention of ilegally copying games! I'm only asking about this as a means of backing up legally purchased copies. ;D

Y'all just haters! Haters, I say! Mac will one day rule the world! And that link to that forum FAQ thingy didn't really help me much. So basically there are different dvd-drives in the 360s and depending on which one you have you have to "flash" it or do something to the "firmware" on it? Huh? I guess I won't be modifying a 360 anytime soon.

Just sell some art on ebay to pay for the old x-box and mod chip. And Mac's=shit. It's like owning a car that can only drive on single lane surface streets.

Speaking of the Xbox 360, I'm playing BioShock right now. This game is a masterpiece. One of the best FPS games I have ever played! Anyone with a 360 needs to get this game. xbox360.ign.com/objects/793/793105.html

I was thinking about giving it a try but HALO 3 comes out in a few weeks. So i gotta use what little money I have on that You know, I'm not hyped at all about Halo 3. Not in the least. It looks exactly the same as the first two. I played and finished the others and I was left pretty burned on it (and bored). I think the Halo series is extremely overrated. I never thought the first Halo was the "end-all be-all" FPS like alot of people seem to (not saying you do, just commenting on general opinion). I personally think the first Half-Life was a much better game than Halo (and frankly, even Halo 2). Halo's an OK game, but just OK IMO. BioShock is better than Halo or Halo 2, no doubt about it. I'm more interested in Call of Duty 4 and Dark Sector than I am Halo 3. I'll wind up getting it eventually I think, but I'm no hurry.

I actually think Lost Planet is one of the best shooting games for x-box live. I only play on x-box live, never story mode, so since half the world will be playing Halo 3 its just a bit more fun

Anyone with a 360 needs to get this game. xbox360.ign.com/objects/793/793105.htmlActually, it's BioShock that got me wanting an Xbox 360 even more now than ever! But at $60 per new game, I can't really afford it. That's why I was thinking if I could mod the system and "back up" some games I'd be good to go. But it's too frick'in complicated and technical. I would never be able to do it or figure it out on my own. And UW, I would just get an Xbox, but I already had an Xbox and sold it! I didn't have time to play...actually, I don't even know why I'm contemplating it now since I would never have time for it. Anyway, thanks for replying...even though you're a Mac hater.

I went to Blockbuster and rented BioShock today. Not impressed at all. The story starts out very confusing. I went for about 2 hours without even dying and got bored and stopped. It's just a zombie game that lets you zap them with your left hand with some dumb power you get when you inject yourself with some blue liquid.

It's just a zombie game that lets you zap them with your left hand with some dumb power you get when you inject yourself with some blue liquid. I don't know how good of a gamer you are, so that "2 hours" thing could mean anything. Sounds like you haven't even scratched the surface of the game to me. Have you even fought a Big Daddy yet? Did you harvest or save a Little Sister and acquired some Adam? Did you upgrade your Plasmids? Did you even finish the first level? Probably not. The story isn't confusing at all. Of course it's going to unravel slowly and they'll keep you guessing as to what's going on for a while, that's good storytelling. It all gets revealed. Sounds like you're just impatient. BioShock is a fantastic game and deserves all the critical praise it's getting. It's one of the best games I've ever played, and I've been gaming for 30 years. They did a great job with this one.
