I thought that the CGC 9.8 NM Grips #1 was worth like $400 or some such so I put in a bid on this item(on eBay) for 25$ thinking there is no way it will go through anyway but if it somehow DID then I would be getting a deal too good to pass on(will compliment my Grips Premier #1 which is at least a 9.8 if I get it graded I think).
So did this thing just lose a ton of value or were the eBay snakers just asleep at the wheel for once? A few days ago also I saw an auction for a lot that included two complete runs of Faust (NM -one with Northstar editions and the other all Rebel), the Faust Premier(NM), EO Premier(NM), Gothic Nights 1 $ 2 (NM), EO 1 & 2(NM), and 8-9 other rare & valuable Vigil comics go for $128(I would have snaked that if I were not so broke).
Are the Godfather's books losing value or are people losing their minds?

Never mind. #1 CGC 9.8 seems to only be worth around $95 - $98(still a good deal to get it for $25 though) and the ashcan(if I ever get it professionally graded) is worth around $185 -$250 or so.
No idea where I got the $400 figure from unless I was thinking of a signed version.

I think the value of Tim's books have also gone down.
I was interested in snagging one of those Faust: LOTD #1 CGCs on Ebay last year, but I couldn't justify paying the $75 or whatever it was.
I remember awhile back there was a whole discussion on the CGC phenomenon (this was back on the Broken Halos board). Personally I still don't fully understand why everyone is so into it. Just seems like another business or another way to make some easy money (for both CGC and collectors).

I had been out of collecting and reading for so long that when my friend Jason McKibbon tried explaining the whole CGC thing to me(while looking through my signed Fausts and such...he is a dealer/buyer himself), I was just lost.Seems like an excuse to get speculators and dealers to send books in bulk to CGC at $12 a pop or whatever just so they can jack up he price by 200%+ But I needed a new, better condition Grips#1 anyway so if I can get the CGC 9.8 version for $25 then what the Hell...
