Yeah I would not mind one bit ordering directly from Tim/Rebel Studios(and I would make DAMN sure to order a fucktastic ass-load of copies!).

I just wanted to let everyone know that I love the board and I'm willing to buy several copies to see the books in print format.
Later.

It's all wishful thinking and hoping against hope. If and when I see Tim at a show again I'll try to convince him to do it, i.e. - self-publish through an online, digital printer and distribute them himself.

Digital printing and publishing Faust 14 that way would be a complete waste of time! How many would sell 100? 200? It is probably not worth the expense to put out unless it would sell 10,000+. It is nice that folks on the board promise to buy a few, but that has nothing to do with the reality of publishing a book in these times. This is the worst time to put out a book in the last 20 years. Diamond has cut the throat of mature and indy comics. Shops will not support smaller distributors. Comic fans dwindle to lower numbers as they lose their jobs and their interest in the medium.
I doubt anyone can convince Tim of much, but I have to say I agree with him about holding off rather than losing money on the book!
I used to be a distributor, about the 5th from the biggest. When comics died, my 100 comic shop customers went to zero in one month. Comics have never recovered, i truly believe they never will.

i think any form of true art, or the distribution of the product has died not only because of economic disaster, but partially due to the dumbing down of society. generally, no one cares about art or culture. they're more enamored with a steroid addled jock abusing a baseball bat! for shame, for shame.

Glen: Point taken about the cost-benefit/economics. Which is why I suggested that 'donation-ware' scheme in the thread I started. That way those of us who can afford to REALLY support the book(in a way more substantial than buying a few copies) could do so. WE would in essence become investors who would be rewarded not just with the completed Faust book but the ultra rare incentive items such as I mentioned.
I myself would not blink about donating a couple hundred if it meant that I would be getting both Faust 14 & 15 and also versions that were limited to only those people who donated similar amounts(which should, even under the best conditions still be a rare enough item that would be the focal point in my proverbial collector's case display.).
Hell there are a million ways Tim could expand on the idea such as including a commision piece for anyone donating $200 or $300 dollars or what have you.

Glen, the "expense" incurred for digital printing isn't even that much. It would probably cost like $1.60 per book. If Tim sold the book at $5 a pop he's making $3.40 on every book sold. And so what if only 200 books sell? That's almost $700 in Tim's pocket and he only had to pay around $320 to print them. Big return on his investment? Of course not. But at least he's not losing money and the more important point here is that the book final sees the light of day and the die hard fans finally get to see it and hold it in their hands.
I also like Tony's idea of people on the board investing money into the printing of it. But even then, I don't know if it would be enough to get the book printed. It probably cost what...$2-3,000 to print it?
Glen, from what you're saying it makes it seem like we'll never see Faust 14 and 15 ever printed. That's depressing.

Hi guys, I am new here, but a long time fan of Tim's. Starting out with Grips I was one of the lucky people at the right place and time who ordered Faust, Omega, and Northstar in the s/n editions way back when. While I stopped collecting most comics in the mid 90's when all the foil cover, and bad pin-up art was taking over, I have stuck with Tim over the years because not only is he a great artist, he's a great guy as well. All the times I've talked to him at cons he is genuinely excited talking about art, and the creative process. Once he even gave me a couple of Prime-Cuts prints of Faust for free because I talked his ear off about Bernie Wrightson and Gustave Dore. Anyways I hope #14 and 15 see the light of day somehow. I would not like it to be a digital release though, I think it would ruin some of the intent behind the series imo. I am used to waiting for long periods of time for Faust (how long was it between #11 and 12 I forget), but of course the sooner the better.

Ah...a man after my own heart(wait that sounds gay! Scratch that.).
Aside from the fact that I somehow missed out on ordering the S/Ned premiers for those series my story is the same as yours...right down to quitting comics in the mid 90s because of the slew of crap Marvel and Image were churning out. Especially Marvel who were not content to spew crap themselves but insisted on buying out everyone from the independents to the distributors and turning other people's work into Marvel crap.
The ending of Faust must see the light of day somehow(and not through crap-ass digital publishing). Perhaps we can petition publishers like Avatar and such? AFter all didn't Tim and David save their asses a few years back letting them publish the then new Faust/Rebel Studios stuff(Book of M, Cuda, Webwitch etc.)?!

Thanks godless for the welcome, I cannot remember exactly where I saw the ad for the s/n (which incidentally also came with a small poster), it was in one of the trade magazines I think. As Tim was my favorite new artist at the time with Grips, his name alone sold me on buying those. Now of course I wish I had ordered more. ;D
Its good to be among some people who appreciate good art and story telling, and not all that current anime derived crap.

My good friends tend to call me 'The Anti-Anime!' or some such. I absolutely hate the stuff anymore. I remember seeing a blurb in one of those comics trade mags in 1988 or so telling how Tim Vigil, the artist from Grips would be doing a new book that fall with some "supernatural overtones". I was hooked and walked to my LCS every day from late September onward asking if "Faust had come in yet?". Funny thing was that as impressive as Tim's art was for Faust #1, the thing I remember most about that issue was the writing. I was simply not surprised that Tim had produced even better artwork than he had at Silverwolf but I figured the book would be more poorly scripted vigilante nonsense used as a vehicle to show off Tim's work. David Quinn was a shock. I still think that those first 6 issues of Faust are some of the top ten best written and drawn stories to appear in comics

I haven't been on this forum in a very long while! But it looks like Faust 14 and 15 STILL hasn't come out yet! I hope that Avatar Press offers to print the final two issues for Tim...then everyone's collection would be complete!
I want my Faust 14 and 15!
