Castle Rain Entertainment is announcing it is revamping its schedule for the current Jack the Lantern: Ghosts mini-series, and the recently announced The Spartan: Blood War one-shot. “This was an extremely difficult decision to make, but it was something that had to be done to put this company back in order and on schedule” said Publisher / Creator / Writer Michael Angelos.
“Since late last year, “JACK: GHOSTS” has seen announced artists not delivering or even starting the work they were hired for, and in doing so, I’ve had to struggle to band-aid the situation with other artists on two different occasions to meet deadlines”, added Angelos. “These persistent problems over the past six-months became increasingly exhausting and I was burning myself out trying to get the series back on track without losing my sanity. “It’s now time to get back to basics and concentrate on the story-telling without any more negative distractions,” reflected Angelos.
On the heels of the first mini-series becoming a cult hit, the second mini-series, Jack the Lantern: Ghosts # 1 sold extremely well through retailers, which included the 2007 FCBD edition. Unfortunately, the time lapse between issue # 1 and # 2 eventually took its toll on pre-sales with fans and retailers alike. “I’ve come to realize more and more of the importance of a competent schedule. I can’t blame any fan, retailer or distributors for not ordering a book that has a schedule that lacks any consistency,” added Angelos. “If you’re going to announce a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly series, you’re going to have to stick to it at all costs.”
With this new initiative in mind, Jack the Lantern: Ghosts mini-series will now be released on a monthly schedule starting in May, 2008, and concluding in October, 2008 (Halloween). The artistic line-up will still consist of amazing Stephen (JSA, Witchblade) Sadowski guest penciling book 2, and regular penciler and Godfather of horror, Tim (Faust, Gothic Nights) Vigil working on books 3-6. Tony (American Wasteland) Bledsoe will be contributing his masterful inks to the entire series. “It’s time make up for this delay. This time we’re going to have 3-4 books completed before the second installment of Jack: Ghosts is released, and a monthly schedule should help retailers increase the visibility and sales of our books, added Angelos.”
In April 2008, to signal the “JACK” re-launch, Castle Rain will release a new printing of the sold-out Jack the Lantern TPB, which collects the first mini-series. It will also feature, among other things, a new cover, a cheaper price and a complete re-letter / edit of the entire book.
That said; the first book slated for release in early 2008, will be the highly anticipated The Spartan: Blood War. “I’m really excited about the book, since it will be my first venture into tapping the “superhero” vein,” said Angelos, “just the cover alone has already stirred some controversy for the wrong, but understandable reason.” The first tale of this 40-page one-shot will be penciled by the incredible, Joe (Gunfighters in Hell) Vigil with a new artist to-be-named-later penciling the second tale of this book. Tony Bledsoe will provide the inks.
Also, during this short hiatus, fans will see an overhaul of our web-site, a new Castle Rain forum, and new art previews uploaded around the latter part of this year. So make sure you stay tuned for the re-birth!
