Well, free comic book day is creeping up fast, and for the first time, Castle Rain will be participating in the mega event. ::)http://www.freecomicbookday.com/sponsors.asp We're going to offer a reprint of Jack:1942 to all retailers. This book is a excellent jumping-point for any new reader or retailer for that matter, into the Jack mythos. So, go out there, and bug your local retailer to order this book.

So wait...how does free comic day work exactly? I can just walk into my local comic shop and get all of those listed books for free? Or is it that you can only take one book? Do you have to make a purchase to get a free book? How does it work?? Inquiring minds want to know.
And yes, UK, I have just grasped how cool this truly is!

Brilliant, Michael. Superb marketing ploy. Too bad the dealers were to stupid to snap up the book with a $1 cover price and guranteed buyback program.

I hope retailers don't drop the ball with this book as they did with the Jestercrow $1 book. I'm feeling very confident about the book--I think the stores that carried the series in the past will go heavy on the FBCD editions, and If I get some stores the didn't carry it to order it, I think I'll win over some new fans.

Damn...how did you make any money selling books for $1?? Hopefully you do pick up some new fans with the Free Comic Book Day gig. It seems that being successful in this comic industry is rough.

Right now it's more about exposure than making money. Michael has done and is continuing to do everything he can to get this book seen both here and in the United K and Europe, going in the hole for this book in an attempt to gain a broader fanbase for future books and related properties. This is very much an investment to him. Generally, the best money to be made in these niche markets is in trade paperbacks and other reprints and collected editions. Then there's a lot of cake since you've already paid your artists, colorists and letterers and deal with only printing costs. Big things are planned for later in the year and I doubt you'll see any books for a dollar again. This specific case is an example of how you have to suffer in the short term as an investment into later potentialities.

Damn... It seems that being successful in this comic industry is rough. It's harder than you can imagine. 99% don't have the ability to truly push themselves to the neccessary limits to make it. If they knew just how hard the initial years as a pro would be, most people would get some kind of other job. But it's like Jimmy Palmiotti told me, "Thank god for the quitters!"

It's an ever changing Industry, and you just really have to keep trying to adapt to it--painfully. The past year I've seen more and more stores stocking less of even the best Indy companies, and turn their focus on the "big two". With FCBD, I'm trying to deter that thought process, and give readers and non-readers a "free" source to try something different, and in the end, hopefully win over some new readership. Right now, I still have the passion for my work and my company, but it has cost me dearly, so I just keep living on hope, faith, determination and a lot of hard work. Oh, and the Jack movie.

FCBD is a sponsership thing... a comic book shop pays so much moeny and they hit a certin sponsership with that level they get the comics from that area... bronze, silver, gold... depending on how much they pay depends on what books they get... Jack is in the Silver area so depending on the size and amount of buiness they do will factor in to if your shop has it or not... i already know mine wont he tried FCBD 3 times and ended up with a stack of books and no new buinness from it so he wont do it anymore just not worth it money wise for him anymore. My shop is more of a you order he gets shop he doesnt have much for the general public. so i will have to check the other store but there are only 2 comic shops in like a 50 mile radius here so unless i order it i dont get it
