I see it and I'm ready to say that it was awesome!
All the characters and the story that can be found in the comics are in the movie, frame by frame like Sin City or 300.
Great movie. I'll watch it again.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was awesome. Exactly. Hah. I knew you were going to say that. I don't have time to write a whole dissertation about why I enjoyed it so much. I'd write it, but who's going to even bother reading it? So instead of wasting my time writing 10 pages of some eloquent, glowing review I decided to just say "I enjoyed it" and "it was awesome". And in my own defense, you also didn't even bother explaining why you thought it was "complete dog shit". It was pretty much exactly like the book (except for the end), so then what you're saying is the book is also complete dog shit. Otherwise, to be more accurate, you'd have to say the ending was complete dog shit, because that was the only part different from the book.

I didn't expect you too either. There isn't much to say about it. I thought it blew. I never read the book, but if it is like you fanboys say, that it was pretty accurate, then maybe I am saying the book is dog shit. It was recommended to me to read the book especially if I didn't like the film, so I'm going to. But I don't know if I'm going to dig it after watching this crap if it's the same. The acting was piss poor and the characters weren't engaging at all. It just wasn't compelling storytelling, at least the film wasn't to me. Honestly, I disliked it so much that I had already seen 2hrs and 20min of it and I didn't even finish watching it. I absolutely did not care how it ended. I still don't. I thought it was dreadfully boring and uninteresting. I DID like the Rorshach character and the extreme violence was a nice surprise, but it wasn't enough to save it for me. It's funny that alot of fans are saying, "If you didn't read the book first, then you probably won't like this movie." That's funny, I never read any 300 books and I really dug that film. I thought it was great, WITHOUT reading anything first. And btw, see what a simple little thread can do? Now you "pop off," you complaining, non-contributing, non-interesting thread starting, whiny little brat! ;D

I liked it.
I read the book 25 years ago and didnt remember much about it. The book was so popular because it was one of the first mainstream books that was written for adults and not kids.
I thought the move was solid and a work of art unlike so much hollywood drivel. It delivered the story the way it was suppossed to be told.
Thru the first third of the movie I rationalized that this was a movie that most people would not love. Its not a feel good, shlockey super hero movie with kareoke singing and teenage love angst, car chases(or some substitute for one). No white hatted good guys vs black hat wearing bad guys, its all pretty much grey.

I don't think that was originally in the book, was it? It really was an unnecessary and cheesey line that took you out of the movie and made you think, "Oh right...this is a comic book movie". I'd actually like to see this at the theater again. I think reading the book and knowing the story from the book before hand makes it much more enjoyable, because you go into the movie already having spots filled in and knowing more background and details, so you don't really feel like anything is missing. It also helps you to better appreciate the characters, because you feel like you know them better from reading the book. They're much more fleshed out and dimensional.

You reiterated my point exactly. No one should have to do any required reading beforehand to enjoy a film and understand it. If people need to do some homework before watching a film, do you think the film was effective at conveying the story?

If people need to do some homework before watching a film, do you think the film was effective at conveying the story? Well obviously, no. No one should have to read a book before seeing a movie in order to understand it. Honestly I can't say what the experience would be like seeing the movie without having read the book, because I went into it knowing so much of the background and knowing so many of the details. Although Roger Ebert apparently caught the essence of what the book was all about just by seeing the movie and having never read the book (and even gave it his highest 4 star rating). So I don't know. I don't know how some people get it and others don't. I think the bottom line is that it really was/is a movie made for the diehard fans of the book. I don't think it's a movie that has mass appeal or that was made for those who aren't familiar with the "source material". I'd like to take someone to see it who hasn't read the book just to see what they're opinion/reaction would be.
