hey p.d., remember the jaguar god book that i believe was mostly, if not all, pin-ups. the variant cover was by corben. that had a bad-ass t.vigil pin-up of j. god in it. i've got a couple from tim, and a really nice one from alex horley. who b.t.w., is a super cool guy! i'll get a digital camera one of these days and show you.

yup, previews fucked up the listing for the book, the sent a notice out to the retailers, but over all it will really fuck up the numbers for the seal and sketch editions, so if you see them grab them fast.

Guess Mr. Fotos and Mr. Vigil don't know either? Does anyone know the reason for the delay in the first place?

Finally got around to picking this up today. I have to be honest that I didn't fully read it yet, I just looked at the pretty pictures. There were some nice splash pages in there. I'm still not a huge fan of the flat colors, though. It would be nice to see some rendering, shading, texture and a varied color palette. It was really noticeably lacking on the images with the squid tentacles.
My favorite part of the book was the ad in the back with the sneak peek of Dark Kingdom #3 and those two, little pencil illustrations by Tim. I really like the one on the left. It's got a very Frank Cho feel to it.
I'm sure I'll get around to reading #2 more closely once I have the time to sit down without any distractions, but from the illustrations and snippets I read I got the basic plot line. Looking forward to the book getting back to a more traditional format with #4. I don't like feeling like I'm reading a book when I'm reading a comic book. The advantage to reading a book is that it allows for your imagination to create all of the visuals, but when the book is interspersed with illustrations it takes you out of your imagination. The advantage of a comic book is that the world you're entering into is completely created for you and you can enter it more like a movie.

I read the book a couple times now. The writing is a lot better than I first gave credit for(not perfect by any means but pretty good all things considered). Some of Tim's visuals did not match up with the written story(i.e. Brynna described as having long braids but Tim's picture having no such braids, story says Red drank the last of his water/wine then destroyed the flask but later in Tim's illustration the flasks are sitting in the boat etc.) but this is very minor, nitpicky stuff.
If you pick up a book with amazing coloring and compare it with these Image Frazetta-verse books, the Frazetta books do seem a bit muted. I did this with some of the "Ultraverse" books(amazing coloring. Reported to be the motivating reason Marvel bought Malibu) as well as a few other books and I can see some of where Jainitai is coming from. Would be interesting to see an expanded palette on Jay's coloring but overall I still like what he does.

i agree with both you guys..i thought there wasn't enough art in it and i did wonder from exactness in illustrations, i enjoyed the formate and had to get comfortable with marks attention to detail. i did make mistakes. jai is right on with coloring also. i would like to have had a more open range of color..foto seems to enjoy the green blue brown range alot. 3 gets into some fun scenes and 4 is back to comic form with a brawl with dd that is coming out cool...keep your views coming. always like your guys look at things.i'll get greg to post a sneek peek look of 4..
