Man, I was on ebay last week. I noticed again that this person is trying to sell his Gothic Night #1 for $75. That is stupid crazy especially in this economy right now. It's not even CG Grade Book.
Then I see other people selling their Gothic Nights #1 for less than $10. I bought NM book for $2.99 but the shipping was a little more than usual. I'm not even a collector that goes crazy if the book has a small crease on the spine. As long as the book is in somewhat good condition, I'm happy.
The last time I saw an insane pricing was the Faust Limited Edition #1 for $100. I know it's rare, but why buy it when you can get the regular edition for much less.
Man, what is up with these people and their pricing. I don't even think this book is that rare. At least, I'm pretty sure it's not. Anyways, moral of the story, look for the best deals before you buy.

Ebay is notorious for a certain percentage of sellers being entirely clueless about pricing. I regularly see the non-rare Omega premier(not the really rare one with the Lightning bolt and yellow cover) priced at like hundreds of dollars from this one idiot(and he never seems to wonder why he NEVER sells these. I paid like $10 for mine). I even see Grips #1 sometimes priced at like $25-$30 by a few clueless people(I paid like $25 for a CGCed 9.8 a few years ago).
AS to your question about why someone would pay more to get the "Premier" edition of Faust #1...well, it is a collectors' thing. I don't remember how much I piad for mine now but am pretty sure it was like $35 - $50 total(S&H included) but I am a patient buyer. I also got Gothic Nights #2(the very rare one) for like $15. It is not about speculation(re: thinking the item will go up in value tremendously one day and you can sell it for profit) for collectors like me(if it were then I would have just been buying all the "X-Men #94", Hulk # 181s etc. back when I could afford them(and you could them for $100 or so). It is about owning the prized books of a specific criterion that YOU care about. Some people are big Punisher fans and will shell out all they can to get the rarest Punisher books. For me it is indie(usually B&W) comics(especially from the 80s and 90s) and more specifically Tim Vigil's books.
I shelled out $100 gladly for Grips Portfolio #2(and will shell out much more for #s 1 and 3 if I find them) that also came with a Grips Premier ed. #1(like 350 copies were printed...of which I now own two) a few weeks back.

I also am patient about buying on ebay, if its too high today, tomorrow there will be another and another ad infinitum. Shipping usually is what kills a book so I wait till its the right price and they have other items for sale I want, then pay a reasonable price. Like these books, I bought several similar items from him and paid only $6 bucks to ship 20 books cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370334938759&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:ITI've been getting a lot of great books for .50 to $1 With the rough economy its a buyers market.

I can understand paying $100 for Grip Portfolio because they are rare and have low print run. Also, the portfolio pieces are large and made of high quality paper. But the Faust Limited Edition #1 doesn't even have a new cover artwork for the book. If it has a special variant cover drawn by Vigil, then I can understand the math. There are some books aren't comics that I bought because it was Vigil Cover.

Actually those pieces were not much(if at all) bigger than the comic books and they were printed on rather cheap paper...but yeah they are very rare Vigil pieces and were never reprinted. Well, it only has a solid black cover with a bleeding "Faust" logo and I am not sure if it has any real 'extras' inside(I am not going to open it) or anything but it makes a nice trophy case piece for a Vigil fan. EDIT: The book DID come with that Faust mini-poster with him at the statue of Liberty.

Or at least of some kind of quality. Make sense since the Grips books were made of newsprint paper. The cover is dramatic and strong. But I still think it's still a lot to pay for. But again, it rare so I can understand the pricing.
