Back when I was trying to raise funds for the Big Apple Con in November, Anthony was gracious enough to employ my services. Below is the commission I created for him, based on his instructions (apparently this is for a story he's working on called "Killers for Christ", but I'm not sure of all the details. Maybe he'll fill us in on it). The only reference he gave me was off a Simon Bisley painting with a "Crusades" type of theme. I used some of those elements, but created the composition from my own mind and then used further references from the internet. The actual illustration is on 11x14 Bristol board and I used pencil, ink washes and brush tip india ink pens (made by Faber-Castell). All-in-all I'm pretty pleased with the way it came out, but of course with any ink wash and work with gradations in it, it's hard to fully appreciate it via a scan on a computer screen. Only Anthony will get to experience it in its full glory! Also some of the edges all the way around were cropped a little close in the scan and this is a stitched scan from two parts. Anyway, here it is for your viewing enjoyment:

couldn't have done better myself...niccccccccccceeee I'm honored and flattered by this comment, but I must humbly disagree. You could have taken this to a whole different level. Regardless, thanks for the kind words. And thanks to everyone else for the support and encouragement.

don't kid yourself. this is a great picture. yes there are some problems and yes my style would have been alittle cleaner but you achieved an excellent piece . there is some ruffness and distortion but that is your stlye.now if that is something you need to work on then do it but i like the story telling and the set up ...if you want to compare to me do it in your own mind but be happy that you did a top notch commission...good job

Just got this piece int he mail today. The detail is awesome. You have outdone yourself Jai. In my opinion this art proves you should be doing mainstream stuff and earning some decent pay as a cover artist.

In my opinion this art proves you should be doing mainstream stuff and earning some decent pay as a cover artist. Glad you enjoy it. I aim to please in my commission pieces, especially for the board members. I wouldn't mind working as a cover artist for the mainstream, but unfortunately those jobs are usually reserved for the big names, like Adam Hughes, Travis Charest, Jim Lee, Alex Ross, etc. I'm just a nobody...
