What about a book (or a chapter in this book) with commisions people were willing to share? I bet there's some jaw-dropping commish out there. Plus if any one knows... what does it take to commision Tim or Joe? for Tim it takes cash up front and some patience(from what im told, lol). for Joe depending on how well you know him he will let you pay after the work is completed. heres a commission i got from Joe, used also as the title page in Sinbuck #1(thanks again Darrell for the hookup). 14x17 on thick bristol, pencil, inked, painted, mixed media all by Joe. sorry for the bad quality pic but my digi cam sux

I didnt know if anyone had asked Tim about this, so I did.
He said he'd sue you all so hard you'd be taking your next crap in prison.
Actually this is what he said "yeah the sketch book is cool . i can contribute too "
So its on!

Actually this is what he said " yeah the sketch book is cool . i can contribute too " So its on! Well who's going to coordinate this monster task?? Someone would have to be the point man whom everyone sends their scans to. And again, everyone will have to be able to scan their work and know how to send the files if they're too large, etc. Will everyone who has commission pieces actually have the time to scan their collections? Like I said, I only have one, so it'd be no problem for me, but what about you guys that have 10 or 15 or more? And what happens if someone doesn't have a scanner? There are just a crap load of variables to this project. And where would it be printed? Kinkos? Who's going to be in charge of putting the book together and getting it printed? I know funding it wouldn't be a problem, because we could all pitch in, but yeah, just all the other stuff involved. I'm not trying to sound pessimistic, but I'm just wondering how this is really going to happen??

*waves hands* I've said a couple times I have no problem being organizer, and would love to do this. I have no problem being the boss, hehe. I'll also foot the costs of printing, since I am pretty sure I can print full color covers myself, and then do a Kinko's for the rest of it. You can send scans to chris@uncannythings.com - I'll make a page on my website with reduced versions of the scans so we can all vote on what we want in it. If someone dosen't have a scanner, and they want to trust me, I have a Mustek A3 scanner, so 11x17 and smaller is easy for me. Alternately, people can scan their stuff at kinkos and email me the file, or they can even just make photocopies of the art and either scan the reduced-size photocopies, or mail me the photocopies and I'll scan them. For scans, 300 DPI and up is best. Like I said before, I myself have about 40+ Vigil pieces, only about 10-15 of those are published pages. What I'd like to see is this be a real convention sketch plus commissioned work book. Color covers, maybe a couple pages inside in color, but the bulk in b&w. I'd like to have all my physical costs covered, but I will donate my time, and all profits over expenses go to Tim. I can either make it available online & ebay myself, or after it's printed and done, just send all the copies to Tim so it could go up on the Broken Halos webshop, and the redbanzi ebay account - basically whichever Tim would like to do. I'd also like to make it so everyone who contributes gets a copy either for free, or just for shipping costs. If everyone else thinks this is OK, then start sending me scans. I'll get a page up in the next day or 2 with the bulk of my pieces. Once the details are hammered out, I can make a deadline - say April 15 - by which I have to have all the scans. Then we could have a week to look at the scans and decide what's going in the book. Hey, here's an interesting note - I'm working on 2 books for the new company TightLip Entertainment as a letterer. The art director for the company is longtime Vigil inker Jeff Austin (Webwitch, Cuda, Raw Media Mags, and 7-11 of Faust). How cool is that? Chris

So Chris is the martyr! Yay! ;D Sounds good to me. I'll send you my piece in the next day or so. But like I also said, one of the biggest challenges is going to be getting everyone off their butts to actually carry this thing through. There are a lot of lazy ass slackers around this place!

Uncanny....IM me you mailing address. my printer is dead and would be easier for me to send you copies than to get a new scanner right now. any ideal how much the whole thing will run...$1000 ?

I have some questions, having only the Hotz sketch book I dont have any idea what the standard con sketch book would look like, if there even is some kind of standard.
How many pages do you see this being.
How many copies printed, I think it should be limited to a certain number even if all copies arent printed initially
Approx cost per copy
what will it sell for
what kind of format are we talking for the book, size, cardstock cover or ?
So what will the quality of printing be from Kinkos and is that who would assemble the book with the cover.
Also what I would like to see is that those who particapate should be able to select a couple of their pieces that would be in the book and the remainder voted on

********************************************* I see this as being as many pages as we have cool pieces for. I was thinking 2-300 copies, not a lot. Cost per copy? No idea, depends on how many pages are total. What will it sell for? Either Tim can decide, or probably $10-$15 Size will probably be standard, 4.25x5.5" (8.5x11 folded in half, heh) Cardstock or glossy covers, color. maybe a couple color pages in the middle too. I'll be doing the color pages myself, so they will be photo perfect. I wouldn't actually use Kinko's, but a smaller local business that is equivalent. The quality should be excellent, or I'll take it someplace else. I'd be assembling the book myself. Not sure I agree that everyone who participates should get to pick what goes in themselves....I 'd rather the overall quality of the pieces in the book stay around the same level, which if everyone votes on the total content is a lot more likely. Plus, like for example, Jai only has 1 con sketch - if everyone gets to pick 2 pieces that definitely go in, then he's shorted one piece. However, why don't we all decide as a group if all the pieces should be oted on, or if every participant is allowed to choose 1 or 2 pieces from their own colloection that are definitely in there.

I sent uncannythings the scans of my two sketches. Is anybody else getting theirs sent? I say with this first book we go with a color cover out of cardstock and a black and white interior. Let's just see if we can get it made before we get to complicated with color inserts. I'm sure theres plenty of work for a second issue.

I sent uncannythings the scans of my two sketches. Is anybody else getting theirs sent? I plan on sending mine. I just haven't had the time to re-scan it. I had scanned it before in two parts and joined it together, but I think it was a low-res scan (at least that's all I can find on my computer).

as soon as i can get out of work at a decent time i'll be heading to Kinko's and will be sending copies everything i can dig up to Chris and he's gonna scan em for me. there's a couple of pieces that i've never posted from last year because my camera and scanner both died and haven't replaced either.
