Jay has posted at the DD forums that there is a chance the book may see print as a B&W edition as well. Here is the B&W Death Dealer that is coming out, the letters, framing and seal are silver foil. This edition looks really sharp I think Irregardless of where you stand on Jay's coloring of the cover you gotta give him props for the effort he has gone too to make the Death Dealer and future Frazetta titles the sucess they have been and will be. Its the highest print run title of any independent in the field, the great sketch incentive covers and this B&W edition are ultra cool, not to mention the rare Frazetta seal editons. This book will get our friend Tim's work in more peoples hands than any title since his early days on Faust. A whole new class of fans will discover his art and hopefully give him the recognition he deserves.

Thanks for sharing these with us, Tim (and well of course to PD for posting them!). From the little sneak peek here I must say it's as if Tim is channeling the power of Bernie Wrightson, but there's still the un-deniable presence of Tim's own personal style and energy. I'm not sure what's going to happen story-wise, but with visuals like these you almost don't care (kind of like Geof Darrow's "Shaolin Cowboy"). Is this going to be printed BW or is Jay coloring the interiors as well? I hate to say it, because it sounds like a criticism of Jay's work (which it's not), but his 'deadline' style of work is often very flat and you can see it in this cover. It's almost all monotone, as if this is just the flatting stage. Gone is the dramatic shadow of the monster against the rock cliff, now replaced with a biege gradient fill. The monsters claws are the same color as its skin and there's no glint or gleam on the metallic surfaces of the armor or weapons. The rocks are also very texture-less and flat. I don't know if Jay was rushed when he did this or he just did it quick as a sample, but I agree with Wulf and UW: the colors really don't do the caliber of Tim's illustration justice. And that's my fear of what's going to happen to the interiors. And again, this isn't a criticism against you, Jay. Obviously you're a very talented digital colorist and everyone knows your skill level. Actually this topic came up before and you also noted the difference between your 'deadline' work and the work you do without any pressure. I don't think anyone would mind waiting a little longer for this book if it meant getting you at 100% at the top of your game. A more colorful palette and painterly style would really make this book a complete masterpiece. Just my two cents. I know you're in a business and can't always work at your leisure, but I just figure if Tim's working on this with no pressure, then maybe you could do the same to make one hell of an amazing book. Regardless of how it turns out, I also have to agree with PD about how this is an awesome opportunity for Tim's work to get more exposure and recognition. And you really do have to give Jay props for what he's done with the Frazetta books. As our dear friend "Bastard" would say: PS - It's nice to read all of the positive praise for Tim's work on that Newsarama thread. I wonder if this is the doorway to bigger things...*cough*Batman*cough*.

Geez people, relax will ya I hear what your say'n and what your seeing here might be different in "real life", on my wife's laptop the image looks real bleached out and flat...not true to the original art, so I'm sure there are "variations" of what is viewed. There are so many ways to go about coloring Tim's art, I have no ego on "showing off" on what I can do on this book and I don't plan to with Tim's work, his line art say's it all. So the overdoing it with textures, heavy rendering and flashy colors will only camouflage Tim's work...I don't want to do that and would be a sin to do so. Take a look at the new Beowulf(movie comic adpt) series that's out thru IDW that I did(first issue hit last week)...that's how I think I'm going to approach Tim's work, it printed a little dark do to the crappy paper stock, but you get the idea. let me know what you think of that book. Til I sit down and start coloring Tim's art, that might change and you might see richer colors or textures or have more of a painted look, don't know, it changes for every book I work on...but you can count on me not crapping on Tim's work fo'sho! Rock-a-doodle Jay

Bastard, you make me laugh...looking at all your posts I picture you as the guy front row center at a Slayer concert, beer in one hand, devil horns in the air banging his head for 2 hours straight.

Check this comment out from the newsaramA thread
"Now Tim Vigil... Working on this must have been inspiring for Tim. You can see it in every stroke, in every line. It's astounding art... just like Mr. Frazetta himself. You see, as only one of a handful of people to ever work with Frazetta twice in their career, I can happily say that Frank would be proud. Tim puts his all into these pages. It shows.
And that... well that's truly masterful Art.'
