Well, I wouldn't say I was disappointed in Lateralus. But did it take some getting used to? Yes, in all honesty it did. But then again, so did Ænima. If go through TOOL's catalog (Opiate, Undertow, Ænima, and Lateralus), do any of those albums sound alike? No, they don't. I was expecting another "Undertow" out of Ænima and they were nothing alike. I've come to expect the unexpected from them. But I've come to appreciate Lateralus alot. And if you've only heard it once, you should go back and give it another shot. Songs that I go back to again and again are The Grudge, Parabola, Ticks and Leeches, Reflection, and Triad. But yeah, even by Danny Carey's own admission, the Lateralus album was quite a bit toned down from previous efforts, and he said they wanted to change that on this next record. Here's hoping! Here's to hoping TOOL strays away from the trend of bands "maturing" towards an eventual Helmet-like pussification. You do realize that nearly the entire lot of songs on that Helmet bootleg I just gave you, the one that you said you are really digging, are from Helmet's post-Strap It On and Meantime albums, right? Almost all of those songs are from Betty and Aftertase, supposedly after Helmet's "pussification." Helmet. Rawk. \m/

Yeah, but that is an intense, ferocious live Helmet attack on that cd. In the studio they were different. I still remember when Meantime came out and I first heard Page starting to try to go melodic and sing. I shudder. But live they take it to another level and he belts those fuckers out.
Even considering my post Strap It On {that cd will ALWAYS be one of the most dense, intense albums EVER recorded} opinion of Helmet, especially after Meantime {which has some of the fiercest Helmet songs on it}, the cds you've hooked me up with recently have left me really wanting to go out and pick up Betty and Aftertaste again. Knowing now, ten or more years later, that I'm not going to get Strap/Meantime intensity Helmet, I think I might appreciate those cds a lot more now. I'll prolly do that this weekend.

So I was looking at Toolband.com today and the news said the song list was a hoax. But it could be a double cross.
Anybody going to Coachella? Tool and Madonna is one crazy lineup.

So I was looking at Toolband.com today and the news said the song list was a hoax. But it could be a double cross. Yeah I saw that on there as well. Heh, I figured. They also had on there that the artwork was on it's way to the printers yesterday, and as such the album title would be leaked eventually so they might as well post it. The new album's title is supposedly "10,000 Days." That was only up on toolband.com for a few hours and then it was taken down but it's all over the 'net now (toolnavy.com for instance). Could it have been put up and taken down just to try and add authenticity to another hoax? Possibly. After all, Tool was telling the media before Lateralus' official release that it was called "Systema Encéphale." Nah, WAY too far and I'm not big on multi-performer concerts. I like going to see the band I dig and that's it. Don't really care to stand out somewhere all day having to hear shitty ass bands just to see who I'm there for. Unfortunately it seems more and more bands are signing on to these types of shows. I'll wait until Tool comes around my parts and hopefully they'll be just with an opening act and that's it. You know, a "normal" concert. And adding Madonna on that bill at the last minute was pure bullshit. Madonna? Fuck that. The Coachella organizers were quoted as saying, "Oh, we don't think having Madonna on the bill will hurt our reputation as an indie show." Right.

Coachella, NO thanks.
RD - I found the cd, so as soon as i bother to make a copy it's yours. And no it will not take 3 months.
Undertow remains my favorite tool album so far, aenima, is awesome and i spend quite a bit of time listening to it, but laterus was a bit of a stretch. it is not bad, just takes repeated listens to get used to it and really appreciate it.

Here's someone's thoughts that apparently went to the Australian listening party yesterday:
Back now. It's a really fucking good solid release. First few tracks are much heavier guitar wise than Lateralus. Staying on pretty straight grooves most of the time 6/4.
Vocals are a lot more likened to APC stuff, too. Then the whole album turns a bit spiritual and you get a lot of tabla and bongo work. HEAPS of intense build ups. Track 5 or 6 will be the single. Punchy, catchy, and has this awesome vocal intro.
THE LAST SONG IS THE BEST TOOL SONG EVER WRITTEN. Electronic drum kit and it's just the most epic thing i've heard.
Looks like it's an end of April release and no name is confirmed yet.[/b]
Damn I wish this album would come out already.

I have to hear the last track now to see if this guy is another poser looking for a cool word or if Tool has gone TOTALLY PROG CRAZY. Also if the last song is really the last song ;D
