MrFaust, the May 8th Dallas show is now up and making it's rounds on the 'net. I've downloaded it and I have to say it's the best boot so far. Very decent.

Just got the new CD yesterday and have been listening to it in the car. Not bad. I have to agree with RD that the best song is "The Pot". I also like "Intension" and "Right In Two".
Some of the stuff on there is a little puzzling or disappointing, though, like "Lipan Conjuring" (do we really need a track that sounds like an Indian rain dance?) and "Viginti Tres" where all you hear is minimal ambience and backward vocals. I'm sure they make more sense or are more interesting if you're on acid or stoned.
"Jambi"s not a bad song. But some songs are just...I don't know...they don't seem that well put together compositionally, like "Wings For Marie (Pt 1)" and Maynard's vocals at times are inaudible with too much effects on them. And often the melody he's singing doesn't match what the instruments are playing. I think Lateralus was a much better album all around and more solid from start to finish. 10,000 Days has more weak points.
I really dig the stereoscopic photos and artwork, though! I had been toying with the idea of getting more into stereoscopic art (like Dali did at the end of his life), so I was excited to see TOOL using this medium.
I have to listen to the album a few more times to better appreciate it, but overall it's a pretty good effort and end product.

Yeah, like I said it's definitely still not an album you can throw on in your car and just "rock out." It took some time for me to fully appreciate this new album, I won't lie, but I am really digging it. Honestly that was also the case with Ænima and Lateralus, same thing there. I found I began to really start digging it the more I listened to it on headphones, and was able to get all of the subtle "nuances" they put on there and really get into the guitar work. My iPod has worked great for this! Out of all the tracks on this new album, I think "Right In Two" has the most "old TOOL" sound. I think it would fit in really well anywhere on Ænima. It's definitely a favorite.

Yeah I have it downloaded at home, waiting to get there to listen to it. I'm so fuckin pissed at myself about this. I had forgotten that a rule of thumb on soldout concerts is, go anyways. 9 times out of 10 they will release tickets that a generally reserved for press, friends and family at the last minute. They did just that at the Dallas show. Center section, first 5 rows, all at face value. I should have remembered this from previous experiences. Oh well I'll see then when they come back though after the Europe/Asia tour.

It didn't just reach out and grab me the first time, hell the first couple times I listened to it. But the damn thing hasn't left my car stereo since it 1st leaked out onto the net. Right In Two is by far my favorite song on this cd.

RD: another source for Dallas showed up. Got it. I think the first one is better. This second source is a bit "cleaner" but it sounds more distant and hollow. First one is better IMO.

I just realized Hoffman's Keys (?) track 7 and Rosetta Stoned (?) track 8 are two different tracks! When I listened to it originally I thought it was one song, but today I noticed the track number change. What a frigg'in jip! Track 7 is just a short drone of sound with a nurse talking to a doctor. So with track 6, 7 and 11 being short "filler" type tracks, there are really only 8 "real" songs. Maybe that's why they made the CD so cheap. Bullocks!

Why don't you try counting the "real" songs on Ænima and Lateralus. Because I don't own them! But no, seriously, I don't. I don't think I've even heard songs from Aenima or if I have I didn't know it. You have to remember: I was a monk living in various temples when these albums came out. Even when Lateralus came out, the only reason I knew about it was because a friend's son who lived near the temple had bought it, so I made a taped copy of it. I don't know what happened to the tape. But I don't remember any real "filler" on Lateralus.

Is that funny because there is or because I used the word "filler"?
