This is a little something I had to do for my final project in my Drawing II class. The project was to take a photo image from a magazine (in this case I used two images, which were long, rectangular strips) and then to draw whatever you wanted in order to make the photo images blend into a seamless, cohesive whole with the rest of the drawing. I had no idea what I was going to do. This whole image just came out subconsciously and organically. It turned into a sort of bizarre, surreal family portrait of some surreal family. The original drawing is on an 18x24 inch piece of drawing paper and is all pencil. I also used blending stumps. I scanned this at a local print shop and did some work on it in Photoshop to make the photo images blend even better. I also jacked up the contrast/levels. Let me know what you think. I also plan on entering this into an art contest for Bizarre magazine. PS - And yes, that's me holding the alien baby!

This is sweet Jai.
Your artwork is refreshing to look at with what you see in print so often. Hows the second issue of Eternal Day coming while I have the art issue out?
I like the different character depictions and the photo blending, it almost seems like they are drawn themselves.

Thanks for the comments, guys. As far as your individual questions: S4C: Eternal Day #2 is finished in terms of artwork and writing. This time around we have someone else doing the lettering. She's almost done with it. Then I just have to make the inside cover, get a back cover (maybe Wulf again if he's game) and write up something for the end notes. I'll post a sneak peek of the first 5 pages once I get JPG versions from the gal lettering it. Bastard: No plans for prints, although I did print out a couple on the color laser copier at my work just to see what it would look like in print. DAL: The symbol on the bowl is the Hindu "OM" (or sometimes written as "AUM") symbol. Here's some interesting info on it: www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/8639/aum.htmlAnd if you really want to get into it, check this site out: www.yogaandyou.com/meaning_of_aum.htmBut I basically used it as a reference to Krishna, because Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita that of syllables he is the syllable "Om". From the Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 7, Text 8: raso ’ham apsu kaunteya prabhasmi sasi-suryayoh pranavah sarva-vedesu shabdah khe paurusam nrsu Translation "O son of Kunti, I am the taste of water, the light of the sun and the moon, the syllable om in the Vedic mantras; I am the sound in ether and ability in man." And here's a bit of an excerpt from Shrila Prabhupad's commentary on this verse: "This verse explains how the Lord is all-pervasive by His diverse material and spiritual energies. The Supreme Lord can be preliminarily perceived by His different energies, and in this way He is realized impersonally. As the demigod in the sun is a person and is perceived by his all-pervading energy, the sunshine, so the Lord, although in His eternal abode, is perceived by His all-pervading diffusive energies." Yeah...deep stuff.
